selective herbicide
Solnox is an emulsifiable concentrate selective herbicide for the control of woody weeds as listed for forestry, grass pastures, conservation, and industrial areas.
Fluroxypyr is a synthetic auxin (acting like indolylacetic acid). After predominantly foliar absoption, the methyl heptyl ester is hydrolysed to the parent acid (the herbicidally active form) and translocated rapidly to other parts of the target plants. It then acts by inducing characteristic auxin-type responses, e.g., leaf curling and distorted growth.
Solnox can be applied by knapsack or Tractor sprayer at roughly 200 – 400 litres of spray mix per hectare. It should be applied as a full cover spray to leaves and stems on actively growing plants with full leaf cover, up to 1 metre in height and preferably with the use of an adjuvant to enhance absorption.
It is very effective as a foliar spray application on Acacia species (Acacia mearnsii and Acacia melanoxylon), Bugweed (Solanum mauritianum), Saligna gum (Eucalyptus grandis), Satans Bush (Solanum elaeagnifolium), Sickle bush (Dichrostachys cinerea), Sweet thorn (Vachellia karroo) but is not selective to these species only, so will also kill surrounding trees and shrubs when used in this way.
Effective as cut stump treatment of Bugweed (Solanum mauritianum), Sickle bush (Dichrostachys cinerea), Silver clusterleaf (Terminalia sericea), Syringa (Melia azedarach), Sweet thorn (Vachellia karroo) and Umbrella thorn (Vachellia tortilis) are some of many species which are very effectively controlled by Solnox.
Rain on sprayed plants may result in reduced efficacy if occurring within 1 hour of application or before spray deposit has dried which would necessitate respraying.
